COURSE COMPONENTS

Book I:  “Introduction into Basic Russian” is the 1st out of the three course books. The course is quite short and may be used as a self-study guide. It consists of 9 steps. Its aim is to familiarize students with Russian sounds before they start learning any basic course at their option. This introductory course suggests that students should go from a sound to a word and from a word to a phrase (rather than immediately start learning the alphabet), and this is the main principle which the guide is based on. Although the introduction to the main course is focused on sounds, learners will get the most necessary initial knowledge of grammar and acquire initial reading skills. In terms of language competencies, this short introductory course meets a considerable part of requirements specified for level A1. It can also be a good addition to your in-class activities. The brochure is included into a set of free materials.

Book II: “Practical Russian: My First Six Steps” is the 2nd out of the three course books. This part is for beginners who have already completed the introductory pronunciation course. It provides detailed explanation and covers the most important basic things needed for further independent studies. Step by step the learner will accumulate the necessary amount of vocabulary units, get good reading skills, acquire the rudiments of grammar and get the initial idea of word formation. Grammar rules are illustrated with tables. Vocabulary units are provided with transcription. The number of sentence patterns is also limited; the patterns are illustrated by examples and included into the reading section of each lesson. In terms of language competencies, this elementary mini-course meets a considerable part of requirements specified for level A2. Can be a good addition to your in-class activities. The brochure is included into a set of free materials.

Book III: “Practical Russian: Steps Seven to Ten” is a follow-up to the course “Practical Russian: My first six steps”. Like the preceding part, it provides detailed explanation and covers the most important basic things needed for further independent studies. In terms of language competencies, this initial basic course meets about 50% of requirements specified for the first certificate level B1. Can be used by students of higher levels to organize their knowledge.

Either the introductory part or all the three parts of the course will provide firm background necessary for you to further learn this or any other basic course of Russian at your option.

The minimum duration of the whole course is 4 weeks. However, the length may vary depending on a pace preferred by a learner. Even though you prefer a longer period, the price remains the same.

Being an independent learner, you can choose to order to your email either (1) a course book (PDF) only; or (2) one lesson of a course at a time (PDF) with voice recordings (MP3), plus support from the teacher (comments on the exercises done by you and sent for checking, answers to your questions, if any); or (3) both of the aforesaid.

Are You going to visit Russia for training in Russian? YesNo

I confirm my consent to the processing of personal data

Dear friends!

You are visiting the website which is aimed at those who want to have Russian as a part of their language portfolio.

The authors of the team do not know the ways and reasons that led you to the Russian language. But we know that Russian can help you if you are

  • interested in discovering Russian culture roots;
  • going to travel or work in Russia;
  • going to study in Russia as a student of a Russian High Education School.

Of course, each aim has its requirements and limits. That is why we are going to issue several courses of Russian as a foreign language (RAFL).

Here you can find two RAFL courses named ФАРВАТЕР (FAIRWAY) and RUSSIAN FOR SELF-LEARNERS. These are the courses for beginners. If you have heard about Russia and you want to open for yourself the Russian way of life, it is your course!

Working and studying in Russia is restricted by law. The law defines the skill levels in Russian that allow to achieve the pointed aims. We are going to help you and we are preparing two new courses that will let you attain both skills and certificates in Russian.

The authors and the teachers of these RAFL courses know how to prevent mistakes that are commonly made at the beginning of the Russian language studies.

It is not a place for students only. It is a place for those who are interested in Russian. If you have some ideas or materials on RAFL it could be the place for you and for your projects on RAFL. That is why the website has minimum references in its menu line now. A language is like a life. It is alive. Let’s develop our skills in RAFL together. This is the place for our cooperation and communication.

You are welcome!

Yours sincerely,

Igor Trifonov     RAFL Teacher
